A young (14yo) group of girls that I want to plan a volunteer project for. Any good suggestions?

Event Planning
Many great intentions are lost in the lack of planning.Set your date with plenty of time to execute your plans. Be mind full of holidays and other local events that might help or hinder your event. Consider the size you are comfortable with; a small bake sale, a local cooking contest, chocolate tasting, a weight loss contest for diabetes, a cruise for cure, etc. How often will this event be, one time only or every year?
Start with what the young teens like. What clubs or group do they belong, cheerleaders, dance, band, choir, etc. How can they apply what they enjoy into a community event? Reach out to the non profit partner, they might have a geed connection (an actress, singer) that might join the cause. The larger the names and popular the cause, the larger the event can be planned to be. Local press is always hungry for a big name or cause to have a sound byte. Don't forget to invite all the local DJ(s) and news anchors.
Please keep me updated, I might have a prize to donate for the cause. Best of luck.

Thank you for writing this article! You're right about getting the media involved, they don't always have a ton to report about so this could be front page stuff! :) And I agree that the people planning either make or break the event. Thank you for your advice, it will help a lot!

My church takes the kids to the nursing home to sing for the elderly. They also play Binog and mingle with them. The kids get just as much out of the event as the nursing home residents. When I was youth director, we had an arts and crafts night for them, too. With a group of fourteen year old girl, it all depends on what sort of event you want to plan. There are so many ways that you can go. If the girls are crafty, they can make jewerly- either for profit , fun, or charity. With Easter coming up, they can sponsor some less fortunate kids by making Easter baskets for them. Each girl can donate one or more items (depending on how many you want to do). It may not seem like much, but in times like these, I feel it is important for children to learn the value of giving to others.
